Welcome to “My Family’s Food Diary”. Influenced by my Greek Cypriot heritage, this is a space where I share with you the recipes I use to cook for my family. Recipes that I have developed with much love over the years of cooking or passed on to me by family and friends. Simple instructions to follow, with flavoursome results that you can easily recreate and enjoy with your family and friends.
My experience with food first begun in my mother’s and aunties’ kitchens as they prepared feasts and planned numerous summer picnics. My mum would literally welcome the whole village at our house for our birthday parties every year, with plenty of food for everyone and leftovers. Watching them cook and asking them questions is how my passion for cooking ignited. They loved sharing recipes between them and with others around them. Perhaps it is the reason why it excites me and I enjoy discussing recipes with other people too.
This blog idea started after I was posting photos on my personal Instagram account of the food I was making and I received a few positive comments. A friend of mine once made a remark and said “I like seeing your food diary every day, it gives me inspiration”. That actually gave me the encouragement to continue sharing my ideas, hence this food diary blog was created. Although a diary is usually kept a secret, mine is not. I like to share what I do and love to see people’s remake of it. So if you make any of my recipes please send me a picture on Instagram, Facebook or email, I would love to see it.
I think it is incredible how we link a specific smell, texture or taste of food to a situation, time or place. Food is a powerful trigger of memories. Special gatherings with my family and friends are vividly remembered as it always involved food. I lost my mum when I was twelve and the memories of cooking together are the ones I remember of her the most. So, I would like to dedicate this blog to my mum for all she has taught me. I’m also hoping it will also become a reference point for my daughters in the future as they grow up and we make our own cooking memories.
xoxo
